What is LottoPawa?
LottoPawa is the biggest lottery in Kenya. Players can buy lottery tickets online, via SMS (USSD), or offline via retailers and agents.

Do all tickets have an equal chance of winning?
Yes. The price per line (one combination of numbers) is always KSH 60, and every ticket has the same chance of winning the same prize amount.
With some other lotteries, you have to pay a higher price per line if you want to have a chance of winning the top prize. LottoPawa does not work like that. The price of one line is always the same. But you can buy multiple lines, at a price of KSH 60 per line, in order to increase your chances of winning.
How do I know if I have won?
In case of a win, you will receive SMS email notifications after the draws. You can also check your results on the LottoPawa website after the draw.
How do I withdraw from my account balance on LottoPawa?
Enjoying your winnings couldn’t be easier – on the website, log in and go to “My Account”, click the “Withdraw” button, select M-PESA or bank account, and input the amount of money you would like to withdraw. Then proceed following the instructions. You will receive the amount withdrawn on your M-PESA Account. M-PESA (not us!) may charge a fee for this.
Withdrawals up to KSh 50,000 will be processed automatically and will be credited to your M-PESA instantly.
Withdrawals above KSh 50,000 are subject to manual approval. You can start a withdrawal in your account, and our support team will call you. They will need to confirm your identity, and then you will receive your money in your M-PESA account.
To withdraw to your bank account, you will have to send us verification documents first (a photo or scan of your ID and a photo or scan of a bank statement with your name in it). Then we will transfer the withdrawal amount to your bank account, with no fees deducted.
Do I have to pay taxes on my winnings?
Under Kenyan law, all lottery winnings are subject to a withholding tax of 20%. That means that the lottery operator (us) must take 20% out of every win and pay it to the KRA, and only the remaining 80% will be paid out to the winners.
At LottoPawa, you’ll be excited to know that we have decided we will cover the 20% withholding tax for ALL smaller winners (i.e. for winnings lower than KSH 20 million).
It means that, unless you win one of the top two prizes (can you imagine!?), you will get the full prize and we will pay the tax for you.
Only if a player wins the first-tier prize of KSH 200 million or the second-tier prize of KSH 20 million, we will have to deduct the withholding tax of 20% first and pay the rest to the customer. That’s just how it is… but we imagine you’ll have more luxurious things to bother yourself with!
The withholding tax is the only tax on lottery wins. You will not have to pay any additional income taxes on a lottery win – so you can take your bundles of cash and spend it just as you please!
Are the prizes and pay-outs safe?
Yes, they are. The Kenyan Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) has checked that all prizes are guaranteed and that all participants of LottoPawa can be sure to get paid for any win, including the big prizes. The BCLB keeps checking all the time to make sure that the necessary funds will be available at any time.
Deposit money into your LottoPawa account for future purchases
This is super easy and safe! On the website, head over to your account and select Deposit Funds, select the amount you wish to deposit, proceed to checkout, and confirm the deposit. You will receive an M-PESA STK Push message. Complete the transaction by entering your M-PESA Pin. You will receive confirmation messages from M-PESA and LottoPawa confirming your transaction.
If you make a deposit, you can use your new balance to buy tickets at any time, without having to go through the payment process.
When do the Lottopawa draws take place?
LottoPawa holds draws twice a week – on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. local time, and Saturdays, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
Tickets have to be bought before 6:00 p.m. on the draw days. All tickets bought after 6:00 p.m. of the draw day will automatically participate in the next draw
Please be advised that the draws for LottoPawa are done by a Random Numbers Generator (RNG). The software for the RNG draw has been tested and approved by a reputable testing lab, and by the BCLB, the governmental body regulating lottery operations in Kenya.
Where can I find my tickets?
It couldn’t be easier to keep track of your tickets. After logging in to your customer account on our website (use your phone number as customer ID, and the password you set when you first signed up), go to the “My tickets” area – all your present and past tickets are there.
If you have played via USSD, you can still see those tickets on our website, after you have logged in.
If you have never created an account online because you always used USSD to buy your ticket, you can go online, click “Register” and then complete the registration of your account online. Your older USSD tickets will be visible in your new account after you have registered online.
Is this lottery legal?
Yes, it is. Our lottery has been approved by the Kenyan Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB), with Mobipesa Ltd as the operator, under the license number PL 0000884, issued by the BCLB.
The BCLB also verified and keeps verifying the security and fairness of the draw procedure. The BCLB receives a file containing the complete information about all sold tickets before each draw. The BCLB also verifies that all winners get paid.

How do the bonus games work?
At LottoPawa, there are two bonus games through which our customers can win additional money.

Is the sequence of my winning numbers important?
No, it is not. It does not matter in which sequence you selected the numbers on your ticket, or which winning number was drawn first, second, and so on.
If the numbers on your ticket match the draw numbers, you win according to the payout plan.

What happens if more than one player wins in tier 1 or tier 2 ?
If more than one player matches all six main numbers and the Pawa number, the tier-one prize of KSh 200 million will be equally divided between the winning players. The same happens in case the same player has played the winning numbers more than once – each of his “lines” only wins a share of the KSh 200 million.
If more than one player matches all six main numbers but not the Pawa number on their ticket, the tier-two prize of KSh 20 million will be equally divided between the winning players. The same happens in case the same player has played the winning numbers more than once – each of his “lines” only wins a share of the KSh 20 million.
All tickets or lines with wins in tiers three and lower will be paid the same amount, namely the amount awarded to that tier. Even if you have selected the same winning numbers on two separate tickets, you will get paid two times the amount that is set for that tier.
